No one person can be bigger than the team

In this next edition of our “Understanding the Role” series, we were inspired by the way a group of colleagues in the Houston area came together to go above and beyond for our customers. To understand what drives that kind of collaboration, we sat down with their leader, Brad Hudson, Area District Manager, who shared his take on leadership, the importance of teamwork, how both come together to elevate the customer experience, and why adopting this mindset matters, especially for those just starting out.

To build and maintain trust within my team, I focus on being honest, reliable, and respectful. I make sure to follow through on what I say I’ll do, and I communicate openly, even when things are tough. I listen to others’ ideas and concerns and show that I value their input. I also try to stay consistent and fair, so people know they can count on me. When mistakes happen, I own up to them and try to learn from them. Trust grows when everyone feels supported, respected, and that they’re working toward the same goal.

I'm not a huge sports fan, but I do listen to coaches on podcasts and various other platforms. These individuals manage the best at their craft, much like I do in my own work. One quote stood out to me last year, and I’ve tried to stay true to the coaching philosophy of Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Easy, you can gain more information if you are part of a team than being on an island by yourself.

Strong teamwork positively influences the customer experience in several important ways. When team members communicate effectively and support one another, work gets done more smoothly and efficiently. This means customers receive faster service, fewer mistakes, and better overall quality. Team members who trust each other can focus more on helping the customer, rather than fixing internal issues. Good teamwork also creates a more positive atmosphere, which customers can feel through friendlier, more confident service. Overall, strong teamwork makes customers feel valued and cared for, which in turn builds trust and loyalty.
