Colleague Yahcole began her career with the team as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, and with an eager mindset, she developed new skill sets, connected with new colleagues, and found new opportunities. Now, as a Supervisor for our Pre-Hire and Onboarding Experience team, Yahcole understands the significance of pre-day 1 preparations for new hires. Explore what she shares in our latest addition to the “First Year Journey” series.

Could you describe your team and share what a new hire can expect during onboarding?

My team is responsible for processing candidates from offer to day one. It’s a very high-touch, high volume process to get candidates onboarded. During pre-hire and onboarding, a new hire can expect a lot of thorough communication from their specialist and a seamless experience. There are a lot of moving pieces to make it seamless, and my team handles everything from signing the offer letter, processing background checks, to a new hire’s first day.

What is your favorite thing about your role?

The best part about being a supervisor is building relationships with each colleague and understanding their personality, quirks, how they work, what makes them happy, and what makes them feel motivated to get up and do their job every day. I really enjoy talking to my team about their day or having a conversation about things other than just work. I love the relationship building part of my role, probably the best.

Why is it important to have a great pre-hire and onboarding experience?

It’s your welcome to the company. The experience really highlights what the company has to offer its employees. If you can set the tone at the beginning, it sets the expectations for what a new hire can experience as a colleague joining Rentokil Terminix.

How does the onboarding experience connect to the company’s culture?

Each specialist has their own style, and their personalities will shine in their communication with you. Even though we use standard templates to help create a consistent experience, you’re still getting a real person and experiencing their preferred communication style and personality in every email or phone call. Everybody is willing to help each other, and I think that speaks highly to our company’s culture. No one gets left behind. Everyone is willing to help where needed to create a great onboarding experience, so I think that speaks highly to our culture here.

Do you have any advice for new hires going through the onboarding process?

Don't be shy to ask questions, because we are the subject matter experts for the Pre-hire and Onboarding Experience. Ask all your questions, even if you want to know what your first day will look like. If we don't know the answer, we can point you in the right direction of who can answer that question. Overall, don’t worry; we got you. You’re in good hands.

Can you offer any words of inspiration to new hires?

I think what really made me stand out was when I had 1:1s, I would seek feedback and learn about what I can do to help myself stand out. I would find opportunities within the organization, join projects, and ultimately, stick my foot in places that I was curious about. For anyone who is wanting to join the team, my advice is to be ambitious and show interest in different things. You never know where you’re going to go. For me, I didn’t know I was going to end up in Pre-Hire & Onboarding, yet joining this team has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
