All it takes is a creative mind and a smile

Posting date: 20/50/24

Sales can be an intimidating job, but for colleague Brenda, Area Sales Manager, all it takes is a creative mind and a smile! Read more to get a glimpse of what it’s like to be on our sales team.

What are the typical clichés that come with being in sales?

The most common cliché is that if you don’t reach the sales target of the month, you will get in trouble, and that’s definitely not the case. We want you to be a consultant, not a salesperson. Our goal is to make sure the customers are taken care of in their healthy home inspections. We are encouraged to look and see what else we can do to assist the customer to protect their homes. That’s the whole goal.

When a colleague doesn’t meet the goals, what do you do to help them be more confident in that role?

We try to coach. For me, I like to do ride-alongs with my team. We go out in the field and take a look at the different customer sites. Once the consultant goes through their pitch, inspection, and consultation with the customer, we review afterwards. We conduct a gap analysis to identify areas of improvement within the process and help customers understand the potential outcomes if they decide to not to take action on our recommendations.

What’s expected in sales?

I lead a team of Pest Control Consultants. Our goal is to make sure the customer experience is exceptional. Therefore, we need someone who is professional, caring, personable, and passionate about looking out for the customer.

Can you describe the team culture?

We aren’t competitive amongst each other. We are there for one another and are always available for questions that someone on the team may have. My team comes together once a week for 45 minutes. Before we hit the field, we discuss wins, opportunities that may arise in the market, how to overcome challenges, and we do a practice session for those who may struggle in a certain line of business and need more assistance. We do this with role playing by allowing our seasoned colleagues to show how they would overcome various different challenges. We love helping one another.

How can someone be successful as a Pest Control Consultant?

One thing that I’ve seen quite a bit is someone coming in and wanting only leads. That’s not what we want. The market is always changing and you can’t rely on your leads to come to you. To be a successful Pest Control Consultant you have to at least know the steps of selling or have a strong core. When you combine that with having a creative mind, income is unlimited. If you can get out there and get creative with finding different leads, man.. reach for the skies. Success is yours for the taking.
